Upgrades

I've been away from work since Friday, and had every intention of updating the blog from home but alas, Blogger does not work on my aged Mac. Now, I would sooner have someone peel my fingernails off with tweezers than give up my darling G3, but this might be a good excuse for me to look into upgrading. I wish I did something fancy and graphicy that would necessitate me buying a G5, but truth be told all I do is play around with Photoshop and write novels on the thing, and all of that wasted space and ability would make me feel guilty. Like owning a racehorse and keeping it tied up behind the garage.

The entire Washwoman extended family was in town this weekend to help get my sister and brother-in-law moved. They rented a house just around the corner from me, but it needed a lot of work, and Mom, Aunt V, Dad and youngest sister came up to help. In two days we've painted every room, refinished the floors, fixed the gate, cleaned out the basement (truly an Adams Family room to begin with) and installed new ceiling fans, etc. I came back to work today and left them all to actually move the furniture.

I resigned myself to skipping my last run of Week 1 yesterday, but theorized that I was getting such a good workout at the house that it didn't matter. I did take time out at noon to go see a gait specialist, who confirmed that my left leg is a half inch longer than my right leg, and that I severely hyperpronate. I left with $150 worth of new shoes, a heel lift, and really good sole inserts. I wore the shoes all day and could have cried, they felt so good. My knee hasn't felt that stable in years. I did notice a twinge in my back when I took them off and my legs went back to 'normal'. The doc told me to put the heel lift in gradually, but I ignored him and put the whole thing in and now I see what he means. So that's why he's the doctor and I'm just the schmuck who'll trade in knee problems for back problems.

The family nested at my little house this weekend, which meant a lot of tripping over one another trying to get into a bathroom, and a lot of cat watching. I'm 'babysitting' littlest sister's cat, Fiero, while she's at the governor's school for the arts. Fi is The Captain's nephew, and they get along like peas and carrots. The Captain is normally an affectionate and attentive animal, but when Fi is around he wouldn't spit on me if I were on fire. I will attempt to control my "awwww!" impulse here, but the cats seem to have their own language, and just watching them interact is enough to make me consider getting a second cat. The fur might kill me, but I can't help believing that every animal deserves to have someone around who speaks his own language.

Food for the weekend, you ask? Baddish. Well, bad but not awful. I still observe myself with a little awe when I can eat a few pieces of pizza then put the box in the fridge and end up having to throw it away because it goes bad. Food like pizza never stood a chance before, but my wolf is satisfied with other things at the moment, like running. I had a few Kahlua mudslides, and a few too many handfuls of kettle corn, and more hummus than can be reasonably healthy but that is far, far less damage than I have done in the past, and I'm happy with it.
